Apart from trading, the GEE Energy group is also involved in the production of biomass products. In Germany, we have an interest in two manufacturing facilities: a biomass centre in Ingolstadt in Bavaria, as well as a briquette facility in Baden-Württemberg.
Our biomass centre in Ingolstadt, which we operate together with IN Energie, became fully operational in autumn 2006 with the production of wood pellets. The fundamental components of this project consist of a biomass combined heat and power plant, a connected wood logistic centre, and a pellet unit. The wood logistic centre looks after its own installation as well as third party local biomass customers. Since autumn, the pellet factory has delivered DINplus certified wood pellets nationwide, including those branded celsico®, with an annual production of about 25,000 tonnes.
Following a successful trial run, our briquette works in Bodelshausen in Baden-Württemberg became fully operational at the end of June 2007. It is the first and only bark briquette plant in Germany with a production capacity of approximately 14,000 tonnes annually.
With our own production plant we want to ensure optimal security of supply and access to top quality products. In the future we will also invest in national and international projects, so that we can always produce a part of our trade volume ourselves. However, we continue to source the bulk from external producers and are hence always open to new dependable partners at home and overseas.
